After a cold winter , with not much fishing, a few boys decided we needed a fishing fix ,
Bemm river was the location decided upon. There were 4 boats and myself and Shaun  on
the Hobie outbacks. Day 1 was a great morning with light winds, the boys on the boats headed off
and Shaun and I rigged up the yaks. Gave Shaun a quick rundown on how to work the rudder , pedals etc
and we were off. Loaded with fresh bait,( Cured Sandworm, cured glassies and fresh local prawns and sandworms)
and squidgy wrigglers and a variety of vibes. Look out for these specialty cured baits as they will be hitting the market soon.

We started paddling out and had to go for a while before we could drop the mirage drives in and start pedaling the hobies
out to the deeper water 1-2m deep. Shaun rigged up one of the cured glassies and I stuck with a vibe and a squidgy wriggler.
We arrived in the deeper water and started a nice slow drift. It musnt have been 5-10 minutes when Shaun just whispered out
“I’M ON”  and on he was. This fish has some solid weight behind it and buckled the GARRY MARSH  southern Bream special
over and began taking some line. I pulled up my lines and started to head towards Shaun, after good battle the fish was netted
which is the tricky part on the yaks, without dropping the fish and /or the rod .It was a lovely dusky flathead which was well
over the 60cm mark and was released unharmed to fight another day.
What a way to start you kayak fishing journey!!!! Shaun was pumped and was totally enthralled by the sensation of
fishing and landing a great fish from the yak. We fished the lake and  the river for the rest of the day , with the lake
producing a few bream, luderick and tailor. Nothing large but still a great day. An afternoon rain shower certainly
wasn’t part of the plan and we got a tad wet  but we both couldn’t wait to get back out there the next day.bemm river 016
An early night seen us up at 6.00am and on the water 10 minutes later, thanks to some help from Trav and Azza,
we headed out to a different spot but it wasn’t productive. So we headed back over to the same area as the day before
and it wasn’t long till we found some hungry big bream. We had a great morning in the almost too prefect conditions.
There was no breeze at all and the drift was non existent. Shaun landed a solid bream of around 37cm on the  and not
long after I landed a 42cm bream on a squidgy wriggler, this fish was a beast a took me quite some time to subdue and
went around the yak numerous times before I put him in the net. That was followed by a 38cm not long after.
We fished for a few more hours and landed a few more bream, some big tailor and a few luderick. Fishing time was up
so wee headed in cleaned up all the yaks, fish and gear, loaded the yaks back on the roof racks and had a great drive
home. All the boys had a great time with lots of laughs, beers and fish. We stayed at the Cosy nook at bemm river
and the facilities are fantastic for small or large groups.  Great clean rooms with lots of boat parking and a ripper BBQ area
with a fireplace and TV .
Cant wait for the next trip
